Learning to Design and Manage the Banana Agro-ecosystem PDF Imprimir

Efficient management of the banana agro ecosystem requires taking into account the interaction of many abiotic and biotic elements which are highly variable from field to field and from year to year.

Farm households that are more observant, that experiment more, that ask more questions, that keep better records and that are better informed will be better prepared to make decisions for crop planning and management under conditions of variability and uncertainty.

Bioversity Musa scientists have adapted a tool kit originally developed by CATIE for extensionists to strengthen farmer ecological reasoning as a basis for designing and managing the Musa agroecosystem for specific and local problems. Partners and projects are expected to test this approach and enrich the tool kit with improved learning tools, information on new pests and results of impacts on production, risk, income and biodiversity.
