wild species distribution Preliminary study of the wild species distribution of wild Musa species using MGIS and DIVA-GIS (3.5 Mo)
P. Pollefeys, S. Sharrock and E. Arnaud. January 2004
Information from a selection of scientific articles dealing with the description of wild bananas and their distribution has been analysed in order to develop a bibliographic database on wild bananas. Various databases (MusaLit, CAB-Abstracts, Current Contents, etc.) were consulted to draw up this list. Experts in banana taxonomy, notably Dr Edmond De Langhe and M. Markkü Häkkinen, provided additional information, which they possessed as a result of various expeditions to Indonesia and Thailand.

Exploration of Musaceae in Papua
The exploration of Musaceae in Irian Jaya (Papua) (3.8 Mo)
11 February - 5 March 2002.
This document presents the description of 28 accessions of wild and cultivated Musa collected in Papua in 2002. It was noted that some cultivars of banana from this province have a similarity and may indeed be synonyms of cultivars from Papua New Guinea.

Musa acminata in Northern Borneo Musa acuminata in Northern Borneo: Preliminary report (2.4 Mo)
Markku Häkkinen and Edmond De Langhe. November 2001.
This preliminary report on the status of Musa acuminata in Northern Borneo was prepared by Markku Häkkinen and Edmond De Langhe, based on a survey carried out by the first author in Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei, in August 2001. Although the main focus of the survey was the section Callimusa, a large number of photographs of Musa acuminata was also taken. With the expertise of Edmond de Langhe, a tentative taxonomic identification of the plants has been made.

Tanzania Musa expedition 2001 Tanzania Musa Expedition 2001 (4.9 Mo)
E. De Langhe, D. Karamura and A. Mbwana. July 8th to July 20th 2001.
This report provides details of the accessions collected during a prospecting mission in the highland areas of Tanzania, namely the slopes of Kilimanjaro, the Usambara hills and the South Pare hills, an area considered as likely to harbour previously uncollected germplasm. It also provides some clarification on the rather obscure nomenclature / synonymy of cultivars in this zone and a broad picture of how African highland bananas have been generated.

Banana diverisity in the Middle East Banana diversity in the Middle East (Jordan, Egypt, Oman) (1.4 Mo)
Edmond De Langhe.
This report provides an overview of banana production in Egypt, Oman and Jordan, with a particular focus on the genetic diversity to be found in each country. The report also provides information on the historical background of bananas in the Middle East and includes a key to the identification of ABB cultivars.
